Bill Mullenmaster, EVP & Chief Architect of GridBright®, to speak at the Grid of the Future Symposium
October 25, 2022
Bill Mullenmaster will speak at the Grid of the Future Symposium 2022 sponsored by The International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) US National Committee on Tuesday November 8, 2022, in Chicago.
Bill, GridBright® EVP and Chief Architect, has worked over the last 20 years with utility customers to build solutions, systems, and integrations to improve a more reliable and sustainable integrated grid. Bill will present with Zac Canders and Matt Highfill the CIGRE accepted paper “RESTful Microservice Architecture for Electric Utility Distribution Systems” coauthored by Terry Nielsen of GridBright®, Zac Canders of Data Capable, and Matt Highfill and Scott Sternfeld of The Outage Initiative.
The paper outlines that the most common technologies used by utilities for Operational Technology (OT) system integration technology use information models that are based upon data exchanges that use the eXtensible Markup Language (XML). This technology is less applicable for newly developed systems and applications that use cloud service technologies including Software as a Service (SaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions. To accelerate the adoption of these new technologies, improvements are needed to the most common utility industry integration standards, including both the CIM (Common Information Model), and MultiSpeak cooperative models. Integration standards can be evolved to define a new RESTful Microservices Architecture (RMA). This can be done by starting from existing utility standards such as CIM and MultiSpeak.
