
Grid Modeling GIS Consultant
Job Description
This opening is for a Grid Modeling GIS Consultant. You will report to the Executive Vice President and will be responsible for extracting and processing Geographic Information System (GIS) data to build distribution grid models for our clients’ grid management applications including Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) and Distributed Energy Resource Systems (DERMS). In addition, you will have the opportunity to:
- Travel to customer sites across the country.
- Work from home.
- Work real-time, solving immediate and critical problems.
- Work side-by-side with customers, developing core business relationships and influencing key business decisions.
- Solve complex implementation, design, and business process challenges.
- Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on GIS modeling that supports mission critical ADMS and DERMS.
Your primary responsibility is to ensure on-time project delivery, which requires a clear understanding of expectations of project assignments to help our clients achieve successful ADMS and DERMS implementations. You will be part of a core project team working on projects to meet critical deliverables and timelines.
Responsibilities
- Lead requirements gathering workshops and develop requirements specifications.
- Lead the design of the GIS interface to grid management applications.
- Implement and test the GIS interface working with our development and test teams.
- Build and validate grid models for grid management applications based on GIS data.
- Help our utility clients with the grid model maintenance process.
- Travel to client sites as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- BS degree in computer science, engineering, or related fields
- 5 or more years’ experience with GIS technology
- Experience with Windows and Unix Operating Systems
- Experience with commercial RDBMS (e.g., Oracle and SQL Server)
- Proven development skills using C++
- Experience with ArcGIS and ArcFM products
- In-depth knowledge of electric distribution systems
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
- Willing and able to travel up to 25% to customer project sites
- US citizen or permanent resident
Desired Qualifications
The following qualities are desired and will be used to differentiate the applicants:
- Proven experience in definition and design of GIS interfaces
- Proven experience in building distribution grid models based on GIS data
- Experience with GIS technologies commonly used by Electric Utilities including Utility Network, Futura Systems, NISC, and GE Smallworld.
- Experience with ESRI technologies including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and Enterprise Geodatabases
- Knowledge gas distribution systems
- Experience working multiple years working in the utility industry for a utility with grid management systems
- Experience with grid management applications such as OMS, ADMS, and DERMS
- Proven development skills using C#, .NET, and SQL programming
