Dr. Dariush Shirmohammadi delivers keynote presentation at 2019 IEEE EUROCON.

Dr. Dariush Shirmohammadi, GridBright EVP and Chief Engineer delivered the opening keynote presentation at EUROCON’s 2019 conference in Serbia on July 1, 2019. His topic of presentation was “Integration of Large Scale and Distributed Variable Energy Resources”.

Dr. Shirmohammadi’s presentation, reflecting his role as a practitioner working with VERs’ integration, identified all temporal and locational integration needs of variable energy resources. On temporal side, the integration needs range from addressing sub-minute, sub-hour, and multiple-hour net load following requirements, post fault system reliability, ability to accurately predict system state on hourly and daily basis, and finally daily, monthly, and annual resource capacity adequacy requirements. On locational side, the integration needs range from addressing system reliability and resiliency on the house, distribution feeder, local distribution system, regional and the bulk system levels both in short and long-term basis. Every one of these integration needs must be adequately defined and understood before solutions to address them could be found and collaboratively implemented by the system operator and the VER industry.  EUROCON is a flagship event of the IEEE Region 8 (Europe, Middle East and Africa) held every two years in a different country with participants from all over the world. EUROCON is a major international forum for the exchange of ideas, theory basics, design methodologies, techniques and experimental results between academia, research institutions and practitioners from industry. It has achieved a considerable success during the past 17 editions in all fields of electrical and electronic engineering, ICT and computer science covered by many IEEE Societies.
