Terry Nielsen to lead Smart Grid Consulting practice

Terry Nielsen has joined GridBright to lead a new Smart Grid Consulting practice.

Terry is a world-class consultant and systems integrator specializing in power industry grid management systems. He has served over 50 electric utilities in 5 continents, improving their grid management and emergency response. He has served on the DistribuTech Advisory Board since 2001. He is active in the IEEE reliability working group, and has worked on the IEC CIM standard, the NRECA MultiSpeak specification, and NERC Electricity Sector Information Sharing Task Force.

Prior to GridBright he held senior leadership roles at UISOL, CES International, and SPL Worldgroup. He has also worked for ALSTOM (Now GE), Oracle, and Control Data Corporation (Now part of Siemens) as part of his 25 years career.

Terry’s experience includes systems integration, software development, product management, integration standards, project management, system health checks, vendor selection, grid modernization strategy, and utility operations business process design. He has extensive hands-on experience with distribution and transmission control systems including Outage Management Systems (OMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and Demand Response Management Systems (DRMS). He has been involved in grid modernization strategy projects for several utilities and has helped utilities apply best practices in grid operations, software architecture and systems integration.

Terry is a graduate of Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University. He frequently presents at leading trade conferences, teaches training courses, and has authored numerous articles including twenty-five peer reviewed papers.
